La-Z-Boy® Spas / Hot Tubs – Knowledge Bank

What to Look for

The better the hydrotherapy experience the more the spa / hot tub typically costs. It is not necessarily the number of jets and the pump horse power that create an exceptional hydrotherapy experience.

Imagine a shower head with 100 jets streaming down on you. Think of the hydrotherapy massage that you receive. Now imagine turning the same shower head a quarter of a turn. Three large pulsating invigorating jets are now massaging your body.

It is not necessarily the number of jets that create great hydrotherapy in a spa/ hot tub; it is the type, number and placement of the jets that determine the overall hydrotherapy experience. La-Z-Boy Spas / Hot Tubs come with exceptional hydrotherapy packages that are carefully configured to ensure precise jet placement and balanced water pressure. The right combination of jets, installed in the right position, with the right water pressure ensure a smooth and soothing massage.

Only the top brands design their products to deliver zoned hydrotherapy with the smallest pumps possible. As long as the jet pressure is optimized the horsepower rating of the pump is irrelevant. The smaller the pump the better. It costs much less to operate, it is quieter and it typically runs much smoother

Do not be misled by spa / hot tub brands that advertise an unusually high number of jets with multiple large pumps. These companies are often attempting to make you believe that it is a superior product when in fact it is a marketing strategy that is intended to generate sales by stating specifications that make you believe it is a better product when it may not be.

What to Look for

The more energy efficient a spa / hot tub is the more it typically costs. There are a number of different approaches to hot tub / spa manufacturing and construction that influence how efficient or inefficient a spa / hot tub is. Regardless, the spa / hot tub should be very energy efficient.

Not only is it good for your pocket book it is the right thing to do for the environment. Heat retention and low amperage pumps are the key. The spa / hot tub heater consumes electricity when there is a call for heat. If there is no call for heat then the spa / hot tub does not consume as much energy.

Heat retention is achieved by having a well insulated cover that fits tightly against the top and sides of the spa / hot tub shell. Heat that could escape by radiating through the shell and hot tub plumbing is insulated by either fully foam insulating the spa / hot tub cavity or a combination of insulation on the shell and plumbing and an insulation around the inside perimeter of the cabinet.

La-Z-Boy Spas / Hot Tubs include an energy efficient Color Coordinated Cover and use a multi-layer heat retaining Therma-Zone Insulation System. The California Energy Commission is the only known non bias electrical consumption rating agency and have established strict guidelines for spas / hot tubs sold in the state of California.

The CEC guidelines are used by many manufacturers including La-Z-Boy Spas / Hot Tubs to determine electrical consumption and energy efficiency ratings. La-Z-Boy Spas / Hot Tubs are CEC approved making them an energy efficient appliance.

What to Look for

It costs more to design and manufacure a spa / hot tub with comfortable underwater seating and an appealing design. Some spas / hot tubs are comfortable for some but not comfortable for others. Be sure to purchase a spa / hot tub with seating the will fully immerse you in hot water and will provide you with favorable viewing orientation when installed at your home.

Ease of entry and exit will be an important part of your shell design and your installation considerations. Deep comfortable seating for all bathers will be important for the enjoyment of the entire family and / or friends.

The footwell should be large enough to comfortably accommodate all of the feet of the stated bather capacity and the best designs utilize every square inch of interior space. Properly positioned lumbar supports, seat depth, width and length on the right seating axis will provide the bather with the most comfortable underwater seating possible.

Sleek new modern designs tend to include smooth, round and gentle lines while older designs tend to have square lines and a more dated look. Just like the automobile industry, spa / hot tub designs continue to evolve and the best brands like La-Z-Boy Spas / Hot Tubs are leading the way with product innovation including comfort and design.

Our Premier and Signature Collections include all new molds that have been computer designed to ensure an exceptional looking product in your backyard. A product that deserves a “WOW” every time you see it. Even years after your purchase. Every effort has been made to maximize every possible square inch of interior space while fully maximizing bather convenience and comfort.

What to Look for

This often the part of the spa / hot tub purchase that is least understood. Some manufacturers cut corners where the consumer may never notice. This includes the spa / hot tub shell, support structure, base, cabinet, and quality of electronic and hydraulic components.

Take the shell for example. Like the paint on a car, the surface can look the same as many other manufacturers. It is the way that the acrylic surface is reinforced that is important. The stronger and the more supportive the shell, the longer it will tend to last. The more labor and materials that are put into the construction of the shell, the more that it costs to make.

Many manufacturers reduce the structural backing and cut corners in their shell construction in order to help them offer and advertise a lower price.
The shell support structure is another way to cut corners and a well built crib or cradle helps to ensure that your spa/ hot tub will last for years and provide you with trouble free enjoyment. Unsupported or poorly supported shells are often subject to excessive wear and tear which can eventually lead to failure.

Spa / Hot Tub bases are usually best when they are a vacuum formed solid impermeable polymer barrier that can stand the test of time. It should protect the spa / hot tub from the elements and form a solid barrier between inner workings of the spa / hot tub and the environment.

What to Look for

What does the spa / hot tub come with in terms of standard features and optional features? These items often include lighting features, water features, and audio / visual equipment. The more standard features that are included in the package the more the spa / hot tub is likely to cost.

Be sure to compare what features are included with the base package and what features are offered as optional equipment. This can make a huge difference in terms of “apples to apples” comparisons. Some manufacturer’s present pricing that includes a very basic list of standard features and options and the spa / hot tub is built up from the base price. Other manufacturers offer an all inclusive package of features and options making their entry level pricing seem much more that their competitors.

This being said, be sure to make an accurate comparison to determine what is included and what is not included. Do not forget that many manufacturers attempt to make you think that their spa / hot tubs are superior by marketing high jet counts and high horse power ratings while cutting corners in the area of quality of construction and eliminating many features that are often included as standard equipment.

What to Look for

The typical spa / hot tub is not plug-and-play. This is why it is difficult for online stores, and non- specialty retailers to succeed in the spa / hot tub business. Like purchasing a new car there is a requirement for a professional to inspect the spa / hot tub and ensure that everything is in good working order after is is delivered by the factory.

Depending upon where you live, your new spa / hot tub may have travelled a considerable distance. During shipping many things can happen. This is why we never recommend that you plan for a party or schedule an event around the arrival of your new spa / hot tub. The day that the spa / hot tub is delivered and installed is the same day that it receives a final inspection.

Anything that requires attention is noted and hopefully taken care of on the spot. Occasionally a return trip is required in order to remedy any outstanding issues. Our network of Authorized Dealers perform a comprehensive final inspection to ensure that your new La-Z-Boy Spa / Hot Tub is in perfect condition and working order.

In order for your new hot tub / spa ownership experience to be the absolute best possible, we insist that our Authorized Dealers make a significant investment in their business.

These highly trained individuals perform all local sales and installation duties and are the contact for in-guarantee and out-of-guarantee service. If we do not have a fully trained Authorized Dealer in your area will will not sell you a La-Z-Boy Spa / Hot Tub. You will just not get the service and support that you deserve. Period.
